Tumbldown - Why MDP was Offline
Hello there,
You may have noticed that Manchester Daily Photo was offline most of Monday, 6 December and the previous evening. This was due to unprecedented downtime from the blogging service that the website runs on - Tumblr.
Tumblr had some sort of huge problem with their servers which took nearly 24 hours to remedy. During this time, Tumblr users had no access to the backend of their websites, and the frontend (i.e., this website) was offline, inaccessible, displaying only a cryptic - and misleading - error message.
Tumblr’s servers have been struggling on and off for the last few weeks - reportedly due to a large increase in the number of users using the service. The previous service outages have tended to be short and sporadic, but yesterday’s downtime was completely unprecedented.
There will be a number of changes coming to Manchester Daily Photo in the new year, and another one to add to the list may be the website’s hosting.
Anyway, thanks for your patience, and fingers crossed we’ll stay back online for the time being!
