MDP extra

An occasional look beyond Manchester Daily Photo

Update the third

1st November 10

Hello there,

Cor blimey, it’s November already! It’s been a while longer than anticipated since I last posted an ‘Extra’ blog entry, so do forgive me.

It’s been a busy few weeks, what with the Manchester Blog Awards - thank you so much to all who voted for MDP - alas, no awards in the end, but thrilling and flattering to be considered amongst the great and good of Manchester’s blogging elite!

And aside from that, I’ve just been getting on with being a student. Second year now, so things are beginning to get important…

It feels like summer is only just behind us, and yet Christmas will be here before we know it. Meanwhile the leaves are changing, we’ve put the clocks back, and Manchester is taking on its more clichéd tones of grey. But this city never hibernates, let alone sleeps, and I am looking forward to the Christmas lights being turned on, and the return of the legendary Christmas markets.

Manchester’s self-publishers have been busy too, as usual, and a couple of them have very kindly featured Manchester Daily Photo.

The Shrieking Violet is a firm favourite, combining DIY zine style with great content you won’t find elsewhere - this issue features a couple of photographs I took, in amongst some really interesting articles and other bits - I particularly enjoyed Natalie’s piece on the Shortlist and Stylist magazines and their respective male and female audiences.

You can read The Shrieking Violet online here, or look out for hard copies around the city in the usual places.

Meanwhile, Pull Yourself Together is another really nicely put together zine, featuring music and cultural comment, and issue 14 contains a round-up of their favourite Manchester Blog Awards nominees - thanks for the kind words, friends! And thanks to Dan Watson for pointing it out to me, and for the image below.

PYT is also found online here, and on paper around the city as above.

That’s all for now. Thanks as always for your kind comments, tweets and emails, and thanks for looking at the website. I hope you continue to enjoy my photographs of Manchester.

Until next time,
Paul Capewell
